As unassuming as the sound of the CTA's sing-song "doors closing" announcement can be, the train car doors may not be as safe as they appear. The CTA is facing a negligence lawsuit from a woman who claims she was dragged by a train and injured when her clothing got stuck in an "L" train door on July 4.
Carina Rivera filed the lawsuit in the Cook County Circuit Court on Aug. 12 and is seeking more than $100,000 in damages, according to the Cook County Record.
She claims that she was exiting a train at the Western Station on the Midway-bound Orange Line when the doors closed before she could completely leave the train. Her clothing got caught in the doors, which cased her to fall and injure herself after being dragged, the lawsuit alleges.
