A man ran his car into a tree and hit a police officer with a car door Friday as he tried to avoid being arrested over a sexual assault on the DePaul University campus, authorities say.

Isidrio Valverde, 40, of the 5100 block of North Sheridan Road, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault after the victim identified him, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Police pinpointed Valverde when several people came forward to identify him after a surveillance photo of a suspect in three sexual assaults was released to the public, according to DNAinfo. Surveillance cameras also recorded the attack and police found the shirt Valverde is shown wearing in the footage, according to prosecutors.

Valverde has only been charged with one of the assaults and prosecutors did not mention the other incidents at his most recent bond hearing, according to DNAinfo. He was also charged with one count of felony resisting and obstructing a police officer and four traffic violations.

The assailant knocked a 21-year-old woman to the ground in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue and sexually assaulted her on Aug. 20, according to police.

The victim was left with abrasions to her knee, scratches on her thigh and a scratch inside her vagina after the attack, according to prosecutors.

The officer who Valverde hit with a car door was treated and released from a hospital, police said.

Valverde is married with four children and is a mechanic, according to his public defender.

His bond has been set at $500,000.
