A woman was killed and a man seriously injured when the car they were in flipped on Lake Shore Drive Thursday evening.

The single-car crash happened around 7:25 p.m. where Lake Shore Drive ends near Sheridan Avenue. The Chicago Tribune reports that the couple in the crash were from Indiana and heading to a Ravinia concert. Christopher Peacock, 33, was driving the car and he is listed in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center because of his severe head injuries. The name of the woman killed in the crash hasn't been released, though ABC7 says she was 33.

A witness at the scene told police that the car looked like it was going too fast as it approached the curve in the road. It skid before veering off the road, knocking over a light pole and landing on its roof. The witness said she saw someone ejected from the car.

Another resident told the Tribune that there have been a few crashes on the same stretch in recent weeks.

"People think Lake Shore Drive is an interstate where you can go 80, 90 mph," the man said. "But it's just a bypass and people don't realize that. So when (the road) ends, they get thrown off."

Clarence Peacock said his son Christopher had recently reconnected with the woman, and he had known her since high school. The couple from Highland, Indiana were headed to see Lenny Kravitz at the Ravinia Festival. "This is a tough time," he told the Tribune.
