Help Wanted: Chicagoist Is Hiring An Associate Editor

By Chicagoist in News on Sep 11, 2015 8:00PM

Are you as intrigued by the city's ever-present budget mess as the newest local comic destined for SNL fame? Do you pine to write about buzzy and serious topics, like gentrification and rising rents? Do you have a sharp wit? Well, Chicagoist is seeking a full-time reporter, editor and blogger with a strong voice who can cover a range of topics, from arts and entertainment to hard news and food.

Responsibilities Include: Producing a healthy mix of informative and engaging news posts; original reporting; social media management; and assigning and editing stories to others. You should be as comfortable reporting—pestering public officials, tracking down sources—as you are musing about whether we should call it The 606 or the Bloomingdale Trail or checking out the newest craft brewery in town.

This is a paid, full-time position, with fully covered medical, dental and vision benefits. As the main Gothamist office is in NYC, the newest Chicagoist associate editor will work from home (or wherever there's WiFi). Days and hours may vary from a normal 9-to-5 job. The ideal candidate must be versatile and knowledgeable about all things Chicago and be able to work efficiently.

Requirements: At least one year of full-time blogging experience, an instinct for what's newsworthy and the skills to report it out, razor-sharp copy editing skills, a ferocious drive and piercing wit, a deep and abiding interest in Chicago and the stamina to create 4-6 well-written and interesting posts per day while helping to manage the flow of pieces from other contributors and grow our audience.

If you're interested, send a brief email with a summary of your experience (paste in your resume, if you like), relevant links and whatever would make you an interesting and compelling candidate to jobs@chicagoist.com, subject "Chicagoist editor" by September 25. No need to follow up: if we're interested, you'll hear from us and no attachments, please.
