Contestants poised for last year's contest.

Eating contests are terrifying and awesome. They're kind of like watching a train wreck - you can't possibly look away - except with the added bonus that you've experience a little bit of what the contestants are going through if you've ever scarfed down your dinner too fast. Well, if you want to become a star eater (and win a big chunk of cash), here's an opportunity.

This Saturday, at Bacci Pizza's Taylor Street location, there will be a pizza eating contest that is not for the faint-hearted. Up to 100 contestants will vie for the title of "Pizza Eating Master" (we just made that up) by eating as much pizza as they can in 20 minutes.

The standing record is seven and a half jumbo slices. Whether you break that or not, the top eater will get $1000 in cash, with $500 and $250 prizes for the second and third place finishers.

How can I enter this magical competition? At least one of you silly people with no regard for your digestive system might ask. It's simple: Go to any Bacci location this week, and if you can down two jumbo slices in 20 minutes, you qualify.

The contest begins at noon on Saturday.
