A new apartment tower has opened its doors in the booming Lincoln Park area just south of the North/Clybourn CTA stop. Since Cabrini Green closed in 2010, the formerly industrial area has seen extraordinary growth from Target to apartment buildings .

The Residences at NewCity, located at 1457 N. Halsted Ave., offer 199 rental units in a complex with the city's largest Mariano's grocery store, an ArcLight cinema and more retail space for stores like Dick's Sporting Goods. The residences are now open, while the commercial spaces' openings are still to be determined. Rents start at just over $1,600 a month for studio apartments and cap out in the high $4,000s for top floor two-bedrooms, Chicago Mag reports.

It's the first apartment high-rise to open in Lincoln Park since nearby SoNo East debuted in 2012, according to Chicago Mag. Most of the development in the Lincoln Park and Cabrini-Green area has been low-rise.

So far NewCity is at least 21 percent leased and 14 percent occupied, according to reps. The residences offer amenities including a pool, spa, 24-hour doormen, fitness studio, outdoor lounge with a fire pit, theater room, dog run and covered parking. These types of benefits have become expected in luxury high-rise apartment buildings along with great views. And reps say 75 percent of the units have at least a partial view of the downtown skyline.
