Howard Brown Health Center is planning to open a medical clinic in Rogers Park by the end of the year. It will be the center's fifth service clinic in the city, the center announced Tuesday.

The nearly 15,000 square-feet new clinic will be located on the first floor of the building at 6500 N. Clark St., next door to the Rogers Park Police Station. Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, the largest collection of LGBTQ literature in the Midwest, currently occupies the building, and the organizations will share the space.

"The new site, located in an emerging hub for LGBTQ culture in Chicago, furthers Howard Brown's mission to eliminate the disparities in healthcare experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning people," Ernesto Munar, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health Center, said in a statement. "Sharing a space with Gerber/Hart also gives us an exciting opportunity to provide a robust wellness experience that impacts a visitor's body, mind and spirit."

Limited healthcare services will be available at the clinic by the end of 2015. The clinic will start providing primary medical care, behavioral health services, STI/HIV screening and treatment and social services in early 2016.

Gerber/Hart will partner with the new clinic allowing them to display artifacts and memorabilia from their collection.

"Sharing a space with Howard Brown will provide new opportunities for the community to learn about and connect with our movement's beginnings, local leaders, art and contributions to this great city," Carrie Barnett, Board President of Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, said in a statement.
