We Got Punked By The 'Boozy Target' Rumors

By Anthony Todd in Food on Oct 7, 2015 5:24PM

Remember how every Chicago media outlet (including us!) gleefully reported that you'd soon be able to quaff to your hearts content while you shopped at the new Streeterville Target? Turns out we may have been a bit over-eager.

The original report said that they'd applied for two liquor licenses: one to sell alcohol, and the other to serve alcohol on site. But Eater Chicago just reported that there isn't an independent bar inside of Target at all—just one of those new Starbucks outlets that serves alcohol in the evenings. Even worse? You can't take it into the store with you. Our hopes of boozy shopping are dashed.

Target is already open for business, and Starbucks will start selling alcohol on Sunday.
