Every Bob's Burgers fan knows about the daily specials: the humorous one-off burgers, always pun-tastic, on the wall behind the counter of the fictional burger shop. They've got awesome names, like "I Know Why the Cajun Burger Sings" and "Don't Get Creme Fraiche With Me," and are a testament to the main character, Bob, and his culinary ambitions. Well, now you can have some of those hilarious burgers in real life.
Chef Cleetus Friedman of Fountainhead is a huge supporter of local food, and he recently decided to start a new series on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights: Slow Food Specials. "It's where I do my interpretation of a fast food item," says Friedman. Things like burgers, chicken nuggets and the like, except made with high quality, local ingredients.
The Bob's Burgers tie-in was a total accident—a product of Friedman's sous-chef's obsession with the show. "I’m a huge Simpson's fan, so I know what’s it’s like to be a cult follower of something," Friedman says. He decided to run with it, and so Fountainhead now has a series of Bob's Burgers-inspired dishes. They picked a list of their favorites, and interpret them each week based on what's available and in season.
Friedman's interpretation.
This week, it's the "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Zucchini Burger," which Friedman turned into three mini burgers with grilled green & yellow squash, horseradish mayo and grain mustard over a bed of fries. The first entry was, "The Cauliflower's Cumin From Inside the House," served on a pretzel bun with a cauliflower and cumin schmear. "We tried to choose the best puns, but also the ones that fit into what we’re doing with the menu."
Upcoming entries include:
- Chile Relleno-You-Didn't Burger
- Chevre Which Way But Loose Burger
- Home for the Challah-Days Burgers
- If Looks Could Kale Burger
- Onion Ring Around the Rosemary
- Charbroil Fair Burger (comes with parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme)
Keep an eye on social media to find out what's on special each week. The burgers are $10.
