Alinea Is Closing For Renovations And Taking Chef Achatz On The Road

By Anthony Todd in Food on Oct 13, 2015 5:03PM

If you're trying to get a taste of Grant Achatz's award winning food at Alinea, book tickets now, because the Tribune reports that they'll be closing for an indefinite period starting on Jan. 1.

The famed restaurant, which has three Michelin stars and every other award there is, has been a fixture of the dining scene for almost a decade. But it's time for a rehab. Owner Nick Kokonas told the Trib: "It’s as if Alinea was a teenager and now it needs to buy some nice shoes.” The space will go through a total gut rehab.

Kokonas didn't say when Alinea would re-open, stating that he didn't know yet.

But Achatz and his team won't be idle—they're moving the restaurant around the world for a new "Alinea in Residence" program, starting in Madrid and moving to Miami.
