Is it too early to make New Year's Eve plans? Al Jourgensen doesn't think so. He announced Ministry will return to the band's old local stomping grounds to ring in 2016 with a performance at Concord Music Hall.
Jourgensen let the cat out of the bag while DJing at the HVAC Pub to celebrate his 57th birthday, and it was confirmed by spokespeople yesterday that tickets for the show will go on sale Friday morning.
Jourgensen keeps threatening to put an end to Ministry, having made a few farewell tours—including one this spring that took the band to the Chicago House of Blues—but he seems to have a hard time actually hanging up the act. (Ed. note: Or giving up the easy paycheck?)
Recently Jourgensen also unveiled his latest project, Surgical Meth Machine, during his DJ set Saturday, playing the the new group's entire debut album. The electro-punk project boasts that no song is slower than a blistering 220 beats per minute. To give you an idea just how fast that is, "Jesus Built My Hotrod" is about 125 beats per minute:
We're not sure what Ministry is planning for the New Year's Eve show, but the set list during the last tour focused on new material including plenty of songs from the band's latest—and reportedly last—studio effort, From Beer to Eternity, while sprinkling in just a few greatest hits. But wouldn't it be cool if they recreated the set from Ministry's New Year's Eve show at Riviera Theater back in 1989 documented in the In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up concert film and live album? Or would that be kind of sad?
Kuma's Corner is also celebrating Jourgensen's birthday this month by offering the Ministry burger as its special October burger. The 10-ounce patty is topped with bacon fat aioli, applewood smoked bacon, fried gouda, caramelized veggies, red wine gravy and fresh time. Enjoy your food coma!
