It's the end of an era for Million Dollar Quartet in Chicago. The long-running show is entering its final 12 weeks at Lincoln Park's Apollo Theatre with a closing date of Jan. 17, 2016.
The show, now in its eighth year, is the city's longest-running Broadway musical with over 3000 performances, according to the Sun-Times.
The play re-creates the night in 1956 when legends Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash hung out and played music together.
After opening at the Goodman Theatre in 2008, the show went on to phenomenal success including a Broadway run, three Tony nominations, a West End run in London, a national tour and more. The show is still running at Harrah's in Las Vegas and in Branson, Mo.
"When 'Million Dollar Quartet' opened at the Goodman Theatre in 2008, we were hoping for the best for our 4-week run at the Owen," producer Gigi Pritzker said in a statement. "To quote Sam Philips, the Father of Rock 'n' Rock, 'We've enjoyed success beyond our wildest imaginings'."
