It's been a while since we've learned new information about the lawsuit accusing Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose of sexual assault.
The 29-year-old accuser, an ex-girlfriend of Rose and referred to as "Jane Doe" in court documents, is seeking $21.5 million in damages, according to the Tribune. She's asking for $15.5 million in punitive damages and $6 million in compensatory damages, plus $3,420 in attorney's fees.
Jane Doe claims that Rose and two of his friends (whom she's also suing) broke into her Los Angeles apartment in August 2013 and gang raped her while she was incapacitated. It took her two years to file the suit because she claims she was "ashamed and embarrassed" and was afraid of her family finding out.
Rose denies the allegations and says they had a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship for over two years. According to court documents filed by Rose and obtained by TMZ, the accuser "consented to sexual interaction with more than one co-defendant on more than one occasion, consented to sexual interactions on the day in question, and invited the defendants to her apartment and buzzed them in."
The case has been moved to U.S. District Court in Los Angeles after Rose's attorney Mark Baute argued that the Rose lived in Chicago at the time of the alleged incident so L.A. County Superior Court, where the lawsuit was originally filed, does not have jurisdiction.
The accuser's attorney Brandon Anand has requested that the case be moved back to state court and tried to make a case that Rose is really a resident of Beverly Hills, not Chicago, in court documents. The basketball player has a house in Beverly Hills and lives there part-time.
The next court date is set for Dec. 7 in Los Angeles.
