Well, that was unexpected. Motorola is getting ready to open a small boutique in the Loop this Saturday.

Called the Moto Shop, the store will stock Motorola’s lineup of new phones, smartwatches and other devices in a cozy and intimate setting where you can experiment with them before purchase. For example, they will have a small makeshift photo studio where you can test the phone’s camera, and a drop zone where you can apparently drop to test its durability. Right on.

Motorola is calling Moto Shop "experiential"—a marketing term for what is hoped to be an immersive consumer experience. A major goal of the the store is to educate people about Motorola products and convince consumers to leave their iPhones behind. How well it fares against against neighbors such as Apple Store and Microsoft Store will probably help determine its long term fate.

Moto Shop is located in the thick of the Loop on 108 N. State St. It’s in the Block 37 shopping center. They open this Saturday, Nov. 7th.
