Grab and go breakfast options that also happen to be delicious can be a hard find in the city. We've had one too many bland yogurt parfaits and stale doughnuts leaving our stomachs howling within an hour, an office faux pas if ever there was one. Thankfully, the team at Dove's Luncheonette have just offered up a remedy-breakfast burritos.

The award-winning One Off Hospitality spot is now curing your morning commuter blues with two handheld burritos that you can grab Monday through Friday, starting at 9 a.m. They also have honor system Dark Matter coffee, so it's an overall great remedy to soak up any liquid mistakes from the night before.

The true test of a "grab and go" option is in the name, so we "grabbed" both versions, carnitas and a vegetarian mushroom, and "go-ed"—we tried them after a quick commute. Up front, kudos to Dove's for not a rubbery egg in sight (even reheated the next day!), the downfall of many breakfast burritos. The stewed mushroom, Chihuahua cheese and epazote, a pungent Mexican herb, packed a nice amount of heat into the vegetarian burrito, and the mushroom blended with the epazote for a forward earthy flavor.

Milder in spice but still full of flavor was the pork option, tender carnitas with sweet peppers, pickled onions and salsa macha. The vinegar from the salsa macha and pickled onions balanced the fattiness of the pork.

Unfortunately, awesome fillings aside, Dove's has something of a carb overload problem. The thick tortillas overpowered, with a texture that reminded us of naan. Not that a naan breakfast sandwich is a bad thing (someone in Chicago, get on that), but the balance was off. We would have liked a little texture, a crispy edge or two.

That said, if you're looking to soak something up, we'd imagine feeling ten times better after a round of these burritos. And here's the bonus: they might actually taste better microwaved the next day. The pickled onion and spices were more forward and the tortilla soaked up some of the flavors so it wasn't as overwhelming. Grab a double and your breakfast is ready to go two days in a row, you can hit the snooze button tomorrow and thank us later.
