Relatively new Daily Show host Trevor Noah doesn't want to visit Chicago because he doesn't "want to die," he told Chi-Raq director Spike Lee during Monday's episode.

Lee, who looked shocked by Noah's comments, was on the show to promote Chi-Raq when they started discussing Rev. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Catholic Church. Noah was so intrigued by John Cusack's character in the film, who is inspired by Pfleger, that he expressed an interest in visiting Chicago to see Pfleger—and then quickly backtracked.

"That's amazing. Now I want to go Chicago. Well, I don't want to go because I don't want to die," Noah said.

His comment put Lee in the position to defend the city he's spent a lot of time in this year working on and promoting his film on the local gun violence problem.

"Well, let's not joke about that because it's some serious, no disrespect, but it's, blood is running on the streets of the South Side of Chicago," Lee replied.

Noah has actually been to Chicago before: He performed stand-up at a sold-out show at Up Comedy Club in Old Town on Jan. 18, 2015.

You can watch the video of Lee's interview on Comedy Central here, Noah says he doesn't want to visit around 4:30:

"Chi-Raq" opens in theaters on Friday. So far it's getting a mix of mostly favorable reviews from critics: it has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
