Move over, pot brownies. Medical marijuana patients in Illinois will be getting a treat from James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Mindy Segal.

Segal, of Wicker Park's Hot Chocolate, is partnering with cannabis cultivator Cresco Labs to create a line of upscale, marijuana-infused pastries, Cresco announced in a statement.

Launching in late February, the line will initially include chocolate brittle bars, infused granola bites, an infused chocolate drink and a ready-made drink mix. There will be more products to come.

"We've all heard the expression 'it tastes like medicine' but there's no reason it has to," Segal said in a statement. "With my recipes and Cresco's technology, we're developing this line of products to be consistent every time and absolutely enjoyable to eat."

She says she's the first award-winning celebrity chef to attach her own brand to cannabis industry products.

"Having someone with Mindy's name brand and credibility enter the cannabis industry says a lot about where this industry is headed," Charles Bachtell, the founder of Cresco, Illinois' largest cannabis cultivator, said in a statement.

The gourmet edibles will be available for purchase at licensed dispensaries in Illinois for licensed patients with approved medical conditions. With distribution agreements, the line will be also be sold in five other states.
