“Beautiful spacious fifth floor office overlooking Washington Blvd.,” advertises a Craigslist rental listing for a space in 121 N. LaSalle Blvd.—also known as Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s City Hall office. “This prestigious office was formally occupied by Harold Washington & both Richard Daley senior & junior. The current tenant is in between jobs & preparing to vacate before the new year.”

About as true as the average Craigslist post, this solid joke inches closer to recognized forms of truth every day. Today, it’s because new internal emails came to light suggesting Emanuel may have (or at least, definitely should have) known more about the Laquan McDonald case, and sooner, than he previously let on.

We reached out to the Craigslist poster to ask what rent was on the office. The poster replied:

Up for negotiation although we're most interested in alternative proposals as problems with past tenants have been consistent & repetitive. I suppose if we [were] looking for consistency a privatization scheme would work best but there seems to be push back from the people we refer to as citizens.
