High Schoolers Troll Rahm Emanuel With Chants Of '16 Shots'

Embattled Mayor Rahm Emanuel faced more criticism Wednesday, this time from students at Urban Prep Charter Academy in Englewood.

The high school is touted by the mayor as a shining example of the best of Chicago's educational system. Several students shouted "16 shots," a reference to the number of times Laquan McDonald was shot by Chicago cop Jason Van Dyke, at Emanuel, according to CBS2. Upon hearing the chanting towards the end of the assembly, the mayor made an abrupt exit and the students continued after he left.

Visiting to introduce the cabinet for the local My Brother's Keeper campaign, Emanuel got a mixed reception from the moment he was introduced. Some of the students ignored the mayor and talked with each other during his speech.

The all-boys high school with campuses in Englewood, Bronzeville and University Village is known for its high graduation rate and excellent college placements.

The Mayor's Office released a statement following the Urban Prep event:

"The Mayor recognizes that Chicagoans are understandably frustrated. He has called for systemic reform to bring safety to every community and rebuild trust where it has been lost. As part of that process he will continue to engage with residents, police, and community leaders to address their specific concerns."

It's the latest chapter in the ongoing series of protests calling Emanuel to resign in the wake of the McDonald shooting controversy. The mayor attempted to quell people's anger with a poorly received apology speech last week.
