A West Side man has been accused of hijacking a car in the West Loop by attacking the man driving the car Tuesday evening, then running over the foot of a woman trying to stop him.

Dimitrious Johnson, 38, of Austin, "forcefully" took the car from a 30-year-old man driving in the 200 block of West Lake Street around 8 p.m., authorities said. The man was sitting in his parked vehicle when Johnson allegedly forced him into the passenger's seat, began hitting him, and then removed him from the car altogether and threw him on the ground.

A 24-year-old woman who was walking by tried to help, but Johnson ended up running over her foot as he made his getaway, according to a police alert. Officers caught up with Johnson in the 200 block of North State Street and caught him.

The original driver of the car was taken to Northwestern Hospital to treat his non-life-threatening injuries.
