Video: Inside A 1930s Ski-Jumping Tournament At Soldier Field

By Kate Shepherd in News on Dec 30, 2015 7:44PM

Soldier Field was no home to Bears games and Taylor Swift concerts in 1937. But it was home to the Chicago Ski Tournament.

This video recently uncovered and posted by the Chicago Film Archives on YouTube shows people ski-jumping on a wooden jump at the massive stadium during the Chicago Ski Tournament:

The tournament, which looks like a lot of fun, was hosted by the Fox River Grove-based Norge Ski Club, which still operates a ski jump in the suburbs.

In addition to the ski-jumping, you can see plenty of spectators in the stands, people skating on the field and cars doing tricks.

If we could travel back in time to this tournament, we would.
