Lakeview leads Chicago neighborhoods in building teardowns, with almost 300 in the past five years, Crain’s reports.

It's really head and shoulders above the rest. The neighborhood with the second-most teardowns was North Center, with 124 in the same time frame, according to Crain's—less than half as many as Lakeview had. Bucktown and West Town tied for third, with 101 teardowns apiece.

Often, multi-unit buildings in the Lakeview area get torn down and replaced with single-family homes worth millions, often accommodations for wealthy families drawn in by the area's public schools.

Crain’s tracked teardowns—demolitions followed by new construction, often indicative of rising home prices and economic prosperity—with data from Chicago Cityscape.
Acording to Crain’s, the North Side sees the most teardowns compared to the South and West Sides. And as the data shows, all—all!—of Chicago’s 2015 teardowns were on the North Side.
