Well, at least we know Coldplay won't be playing Lollapalooza. The band will be playing Soldier Field as part of their A Head Full Of Dreams Tour on July 23. The band is touring what is reportedly their swan song, A Head Full Of Dreams, hence the tour name. Inventive, no?

The new album is a bit of a chilly snooze. Sure, it's full of upbeat numbers but the sheen is so glossy that the songs slip off your brain before they ever get a chance to take hold. The band has also developed a bit of a reputation for being this generation's bland, even more crowd-pleasing version of U2.In fact it's pretty easy to remember that when their debut came out in 2000, just how critically lauded the band was. I remember buying Parachutes that years as an import because it took a while to get released in the U.S.A and I still maintain "Yellow" is still a modern classic.

What most people probably don't know unless they've actually attended a Coldplay concert is just what a juggernaut the band is live. I know; I wouldn't believe it either had I not experienced it for myself. Chris Martin and his crew are grand entertainers, and treat huge venues as if they're intimate spaces, drawing every attendee into their performance. So playing Soldier Field makes perfect sense and will stand as a grand capstone to their career playing in Chicago.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. There's a pre-sale right now if you're a Citi Card member. So if roll all fancy like that you can get the jump on the rest of us.
