Video: Epic Buzzer Beater Shot From 8th Grader Wins Suburban Basketball Championship

Improbable buzzer-beater shots transcend basketball. They warm the hearts of everyone who’s ever worked on a deadline, or beaten odds of any kind, or cried watching the preview for Coach Carter (not that I would ever do such a thing).

Buzzer-beaters are doubly heartwarming when the person who nails one is in eighth grade, and he does it from beyond half-court.

Jack Hlavin, an eighth-grade player at Western Springs’ St. John of the Cross, did just that in a game against La Grange’s St. Cletus the other day, winning his team the Suburban Parish League championship.

This was especially exciting because, according to Deadspin, St. Cletus has beaten St. John of the Cross twice in the league’s regular season.
