Community gardening is becoming more popular every year. If you don't have a big yard, or don't want to do the (serious) work required to turn it into a viable garden, joining up with a community garden is a great way to get your plant-growing fix. And one of the biggest and best organizations in the city just opened registration for this year's growing season.

Many people complain that they can't find a community garden plot in May. Well, that's because they're all booked up already! The Peterson Garden Project, which we've gardened with in the past, opened general registration this morning. Previous gardeners got an early crack at the available plots, but there are still plenty of spaces open at all of their gardens.

You can garden at the following locations:

Global Garden at Lawrence and Sacramento
Land on Lincoln at Lincoln and Sacramento
NEIU Ground at the NEIU Campus
Vedgewater at Broadway and Rosemont
Hello! Howard Garden at Howard and Ashland

Membership in the Peterson Garden Project is $85 a year. For that money, you get a garden plot, tons of garden programing including parties and classes, and, most importantly, the opportunity to be part of one of the most awesome and beautiful things in the city.

Registration is open now. And if you need more information before you're sold, here's our guide to Chicago's best urban farming.
