Barely two months into 2016, Chicago has already logged more than 365 shootings—including at least 70 fatal shootings.

That's more than double the number of shootings seen in January and the first half of February 2015, according to a Tribune analysis of crime data. The trouble statistics underscore an entrenched gun violence problem that hasn't seemed to slow this winter, despite the colder weather that typically leads to a downturn in shootings.

This past weekend alone at least six Chicagoans were fatally shot, and at least 14 other Chicagoans were wounded in shootings around the city, including Bronzeville, West Lawn, South Austin and Longwood Manor.
