Photos: Chinese New Year Parade Shines Through Winter Snow

Hundreds of parade-goers crowded the streets of historic Chinatown to celebrate the Chinese New Year—the beginning of the year of the monkey—and tough through a snowstorm.

Dozens of groups braved the cold to mach in the parade, ranging from area high school bands, the Irish Shannon Rovers pipe band to a Chinese community group from Indiana. Distinguished guests included 25th ward Ald. Danny Solis, Anita Alvarez and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago.

Chicago will be continuing its celebration of Chinese New Year throughout the week, which will cumulate to the final celebration at Navy Pier called the Lantern Festival on Feb. 21.
