On Wednesday night, a 45-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in the gym of a West Town high-rise, NBC reports.

Police have the offender in custody, with charges pending, according to the Chicago Police Office of News Affairs.

The shooting took place at about 7 p.m. in the 500 block of West Kinzie Street.

The shooter was allegedly a man in a wheelchair, according to two alleged witnesses who spoke with NBC.

"A gentleman that lives in building rolled up 8th floor to the workout room, rolled up to a guy on the treadmill, shot him in back of the head, wheeled himself out of building," witness Brian Gabriel said.

Another witness, Aaron Snyder, told NBC that he saw a man in a wheelchair arguing with a man on a treadmill over a girl, in what he thought was a joking manner. When Snyder heard gunshots, he hid for 45 minutes.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.
