In a depressing turn of events, ambitious (and awesome) West Loop spot Tete Charcuterie unexpectedly closed this weekend.

When Tete opened, it made everyone's best new restaurants list. I've enjoyed many great meals there, and the charcuterie selection lived up to its name. Even more surprising were the vegetarian dishes, which won raves and showed a sort of care that doesn't often appear in a meaty spot. They even had ambitious cocktails!

The Trib broke the story, and got the following statement from the restaurant:

The owners are "incredibly proud of what we've accomplished with Tete. It has allowed us to introduce our product and garnered a reputation for the quality we provide. We're walking away from this feeling very positive about what we've built for the last two years."

Not a great way to start the week in restaurant news.
