The case of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee's horrific shooting death last fall has taken a disturbing new turn: Prosecutors at the arraignment for a man just charged with Lee's murder say the man had plans to torture the boy as part of a macabre gang-war retaliation tactic.
Dwright Boone-Doty, 22, faced a bond hearing in criminal court Tuesday afternoon, where he was ordered held without bail, according to the Sun-Times. During his hearing, prosecutors said Boone-Doty planned to cut off Lee's fingers and ears.
Police have long considered Lee's killing to likely have been committed in retaliation against his father, who is reportedly a member of the Gangers Disciples' Killa Ward faction. Boone-Doty also reportedly planned to kill Lee's grandmother.
Boone-Doty was already doing time in Cook County Jail on unrelated charges when fellow inmates reportedly heard him laugh and brag about Lee's shooting and even sing a rap about it. A jailhouse informant wearing a wire caught him bragging on tape, and authorities said the evidence makes them confident that he is the killer.
