"Moneygun is just a bar." That's the casual tag line promoted by the creators of this new Fulton Market bar, which did a bit of teasing on social media last week before suddenly opening on Saturday night. All we got pre-opening was a photo of a rusty door, posted on Facebook, with this vague note: "There is a green door at 660 w. LAKE street. It opens for you at 5pm. And it's just a bar." No other info.

If this sounds more like a viral marketing campaign than a restaurant, you aren't wrong, but it turns out it's actually the new bar from the group behind Thalia Hall, Dusek's, Punch House, The Promontory and Longman & Eagle. Moneygun. Drinks are by everyone associated with the group (Will Duncan (Punch House), Dustin Drankiewicz (Tack Room & The Promontory) and Justin Anderson (La Sirena Clandestine)) and food is by Jared Wentworth.
The menu (below) is incredibly intriguing. Rather than a complex list of cocktails with obscure ingredients, there's simply a long column on the left. You've likely heard of all of these classics, which range from a cuba libre to an amaretto sour. Also on the list? A Pink Squirrel, which is almost impossible to find anymore. But with those bartenders behind it, we're fairly certain that these classics will be great.
We will give you more information as we get it (or after a visit), but until then, here's a tidbit from the release. We usually don't reprint parts of press releases, but this says it better than we could.
YOU: So, what’s MONEYGUN? MG: It's just a bar. YOU: Oh, so like the “dive bar” thing? MG: No, more like “classic” I guess. YOU: What’s on the menu? MG: Just good drinks, oh yeah and Chef Jared is doing bar snacks. YOU: Just good drinks? So, will there be cocktails? MG: Of course! Any good bar had better know how to make the essential YOU: What about craft beer and fine wine? MG: Oh yeah, Chris Kafcas from Fountainhead is doing the beer, and the wine offerings will be concise but excellent. YOU: What’s with the name MONEYGUN? MG: Wouldn’t it be hilarious if you had a gun that shot money? YOU: Not really. MG:
