A Farewell To Popular Streeterville Lunch Spot Local Root

Local Root, which has been bringing locally-sourced goodness to Streeterville for three-and-a-half years, quietly closed earlier this month.

Eater clued us into the closing, which was announced on their website on March 16. Local Root was a pretty, bright restaurant that did all-day dining, and had a robust lunch crowd, though its dinner and bar business never quite lived up to its potential. Unfortunately, a combination of construction and rents doomed them; that chunk of Streeterville has been under a fairly disruptive construction project for two years now. We've had many a good lunch date there—it was a perfect spot for a lunch meeting in River North—and are sad to see it go.

The restaurant released a statement:

We remain totally committed to the importance of changing the food delivery channel and promoting locally sourced and sustainably produced food and we hope you will continue to patronize establishments with these same values.
