Mayor Rahm Emanuel, like most Chicagoans who have friends, is pro-Cubs and anti-Donald Trump. He defended the Ricketts family against Trump’s recent accusation that they do a “rotten job” running the Cubs in a radio appearance Wednesday—with a prophecy that the Cubs will make it to the World Series this year.
According to the Tribune, Emanuel told by WLS-AM 890 reporter Bill Cameron, "Well, when the Cubs, in their new stadium, are in the World Series this season, I don't think he'll be having any good seats. So that's number one.”
Emanuel also defended the Ricketts family more generally. He admitted he has had clashed with the Ricketts in the past, especially over Wrigley Field renovations, but added that “I would say to Donald Trump, the Rickettses are a family that I know as owners invest not only in the field and not only invest in the surrounding area, they invest in the opportunities for our kids. And I would just tell that they are examples of good corporate citizens.”
We don’t know whether donating to kid-related causes sometimes makes “a good corporate citizen,” but the Ricketts family also plans to build a giant beer garden at Wrigley Field, so
they’re at least fun corporate citizens.
