When recording artist Prince died last week at 57, he left behind no will, according to court documents filed Tuesday by his sister.
"I do not know of the existence of a Will and have no reason to believe that the Decedent executed testamentary documents in any form," Nelson states in her filing.
Tyka Nelson's documents, filed in Minnesota's Carver County, say that Prince was survived by no family except Nelson (his full sister) and five living half-siblings, whom her filing terms "interested parties." Prince has a sixth half-sibling, a sister, who is deceased.
Nelson's filing requests the appointment of an administrator to handle Prince's assets, which include his Paisley Park home, a record label, and his unreleased songs. Estimates have put the total value of Prince's fortune at $300 million, though that figure is contested. Fox News, for instance, estimates that the estate is worth worth "much, much less"—an amount still in the millions, but small compared to the potential future earnings of Prince's music.
