Workers will break ground on the 95-story Vista Tower this summer, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today, along with developers Magellan Development Group and Wanda Group of Beijing. When it's finished, the Jeanne Gang-designed building will be almost 1,200 feet tall, making it the third tallest tower in Chicago (after the Willis Tower and the Trump Tower).
Vista Tower will be composed of two primary parts: 406 residential units (starting at $1 million apiece and reaching up to a whopping $18 million for a full-floor unit) and the luxury Wanda Vista Hotel. The hotel will contain roughly 200 rooms, 400+ condominiums and around 9,000 square feet of retail space.
The two development groups behind the project finalized purchase of the Vista Tower site, located at the end of Upper Wacker Drive in Lakeshore East, last week.
The latest renderings of the tower, from March of this year, give a sense of the building's look beyond the numbers: lots of floor to ceiling windows and hardwood floors. It's worth taking a look.
