An unidentified white man was fatally shot by police Monday morning after allegedly attempting to rob an Archer Heights Bank, authorities said today.
At 10:48 a.m., Chicago police responded to a holdup alarm from the bank, according to a police statement. The bank's security guard had chased the suspect from the bank on foot; when police arrived to help, they got into an armed confrontation with the suspect, and an officer fatally shot the man. A handgun was found at the scene.
Police are collaborating with the FBI on the bank robbery investigation, and the Independent Police Review Authority will investigate the shooting.
