Video: Homer Likes Chicago Deep Dish More Than NYC's Dumb Pizza

Homer Simpson has weighed in on the debate dividing our country this election season: Chicago deep dish, or New York's dumb thin-crust whatever?

"I prefer Chicago deep dish because I like Italian better than Chinese," Homer opined, nonsensically as far as we can tell, in a live improvised episode of the Simpsons Sunday night. (The question begins at roughly the 1:30 minute mark in the clip above.)

During the "Simprovised" show, as it was called, Homer responded to fan questions live. (Well, really, real person and Oak Park native Dan Castellanata did. He's the guy who voices Homer.) The Simpsons aired two "Simprovised" shows Sunday—a West Coast and an East Coast version—and the pizza question cropped up on the East Coast one.

The public servants at the Tribune tracked down the Chicago man who asked the question: George Quiroga, 45, of Montclare. Quiroga told the Tribune that his question only got on air after he called the show 72 times, but in his estimation, it was worth it.

"Homer's answer was pretty hilarious," Quiroga told the Tribune.

I am open to being wrong, but counterpoint: Homer's answer was not hilarious, and made no sense. Why is he talking about Chinese food and/or people? If you can persuasively explain to me (in a Facebook comment or by emailing tips@chicagoist.com) why it was funny and not a string of random words that fell out of Castellaneta's mouth, I may update this post with a block quote from you.

Regardless of the specifics of what Homer said, though, we're excited about this victory for Chicago-style pizza. It is one of the most excellent, most dense foods on this earth, and deserves every honor, in the Simpsons world and the real one.
