Au Cheval has been generally acclaimed as having the best burger in the entire universe. And while this opinion has occasionally been derided (including by our very own website), we're definitely in the minority, as the constant three-hour waits at Au Cheval confirm.
Well, the Tribune has thrown down the gauntlet. Marissa Conrad thinks there may be a new champion in town: Johnny's Grill. You know, the Logan Square former diner, taken over and fancy-fied by Chef Sarah Jordan last year. It still retains much of its diner flair, including this griddled burger that made Conrad swoon.
[T]wo beautifully griddled patties, covered in melted sharp cheddar on a soft bun that soaks up the grease. A thick layer of mustard-mayo mixture makes every bite creamy, and pickles on top nail the fast-food nostalgia.
We'll have to add it to our list of the best burgers in town. Plus, where else in Chicago can you grab a great burger and then head next door to the best Mezcal bar in the Midwest?
