Maggie Daley Park's Climbing Wall Is Open Til 9 P.M. Daily, Starting Friday

Starting Friday, the climbing wall at Maggie Daley Park will be open longer hours: from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The extended warm weather hours will last through to Labor Day, the park announced Thursday.
Chicagoans who stop by the wall can try out bouldering, top-rope climbing or lead rope climbing, after an initial beginner training class. Climbers of almost any age are welcome at the park, too; the only requirements are that parents sign a waiver for minors, and that kids "fit comfortably" in the park's harnesses. They often fit kids as young as 4.
The price of certification for newbieshas gone down since the climbing wall first opened in 2015, too—so a trip there is pretty affordable fun. Once upon a time, certification cost $29; now, it's $10 for a 15-minute bouldering certification, and $19 for a 45-minute top-rope certification. The daily fee for certified climbers is $7.
