One of the many cases of police brutality that will be getting more public attention in the coming weeks shows an incident that happened at a River North Portillo's the night the Blackhawks clinched their 2015 championship.

Video from multiple angles captured the incident on June 15, 2015. Khaled W. Shaar, an off-duty police officer working security around closing time after midnight, repeatedly asks a family eating their dinner to leave but one man Terrence G. Clarke refuses. The police officer says Clarke told him, "Do whatever the fuck you have to do, I'm not leaving." He then apparently threw hot cheese at the officer, and you can see Clarke throwing something here at the 5:20-minute mark:

That's when Shaar called 9-1-1. He attempts to handcuff Clarke while he's on the phone. Clarke can be heard saying "give me my money back" on video.

In the incident report, it says that the "offender resisted arrested then started striking victim with closed fists and swung a chair at victim, striking him. Then it says "victim defended himself by striking the offender in the head and face with his right hand."

To our eyes, none of the videos seem to bear out the claim that Shaar was struck by a chair. The two did scuffle, with Clarke yelling "get away from me" and Shaar repeatedly punching Clarke.

Cell phone video by a man identifying himself as Clarke's son shows that witnesses were incredulous about what they had just witnessed:

The Tribune notes that Shaar has 15 police misconduct complaints against him since June 2007. Shaar refused to talk to the Trib about the case.
