It Could Be Record-Breakingly Hot This Weekend

Updated at 4:30 p.m. with information from Spring Awakening: It's going to be hell-level hot in Chicago on Saturday—maybe even record-breakingly so. Accuweather and the National Weather Service both predict highs in the low 90s, just shy of the all-time high for June 12 in Chicago: 97 degrees, recorded in 1956, according to the NWS.

This will add some sweltering intensity to the assorted outdoor festivals this weekend, including Spring Awakening in Addams/Medill Park. A spokesperson for the festival told Chicagoist that to keep festival-goers safe in the heat, Spring Awakening will have free water refill stations, two CTA cooling buses, and a free, three-story waterslide (!) on the premises. There will also be a team of "Celebrate Safe" workers roaming the fesitval grounds with water bottles and other necessities, with a direct line to medical staff.

Whether you're listening to EDM or posting up in the frozen food section at Jewel, though, there are some universal things you can do to say safe and comfortable: Stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen, hydrate (even when you don't feel thirsty!) and wearing light-colored clothes. Oh, and for the love of god, don't hang out in a parked car with the windows rolled up.
