A 17-year-old boy had been charged with shooting a six-year-old girl in the back on Monday, police announced Wednesday. The boy, whose mug shot and name have not been released because he is a juvenile, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm.

The boy reportedly shot six-year-old Jaylene Bermeo in the 2100 block of North Bingham in Logan Square around 8 p.m., while she was playing outside a house hosting a party. The boy was arrested on Tuesday, and identified as the person who shot at Bermeo from the driver's seat of a car.

After the shooting, Bermeo was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. ABC7 reportsthat she is still there and still in critical condition as of Thursday.
