Prettay, prettay, prettay good news coming out of ESPN: Second-year Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon has reiterated his desire to appear on Curb Your Enthusiasm. HBO announced Monday that the acclaimed, squirm-along TV comedy series, starring Larry David, will return for a ninth season. New episodes last aired in the fall of 2011.

Curb co-star and Cubs diehard Jeff Garlin extended an invitation last month, should the show return. Now with the new season confirmed, Maddon was still game when he spoke Tuesday with reporters. "If he said he's gonna make it happen, then we'll make it happen."

"I promised him," Garlin told ESPN radio. "I'm being very public about it. I'll do my best to get him on. And when I say 'do my best,' I think it will happen. And it's during the offseason, so we'll do it." The deal hasn’t been finalized, but the agreeable public dance between Maddon and Garlin certainly sounds promising. “I can miss [part of Spring Training],” Maddon quipped when told shooting will likely begin early next year.

Garlin expects Maddon’s role to be a modest cameo, "a one-line part at a restaurant or something," with the manager most likely playing himself. Whatever the result, we can’t wait: the thinking person's baseball guy on David's thinking person’s comedy classic should spawn something memorable.
