A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a woman that occurred Thursday afternoon on the CTA Red Line, police said Saturday.
Arthur Jones, 29, of the 5300 block of South Carpenter Street, was denied bond in a hearing on Saturday, according to reports.
The attack took place around 12:30 p.m. on a southbound train near the 200 block of West 47th Street station. Jones reportedly attacked the victim, Jessica Hampton, 25, after asking her if she'd have children with him and she said no. Hampton was pronounced dead on the scene; and the suspect was apprehended by the first responding officer.
In addition to first-degree murder, Jones also faces charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and attempting to disarm a police officer. Jones allegedly struck and tried to disarm a police officer Friday while at the St. Bernard Hospital, where he received stitches for wounds suffered during the attack.
