A person was struck by a Metra train Tuesday morning while walking on the tracks, a Metra spokesperson Meg Reile said.

The train struck the person just after 8:30 a.m. near Metra's Kensington Yard facility on the far South Side, between the Riverdale and Kensington/115th Street stations. The person was transported to Stroger Hospital in unknown condition.

Metra stopped train traffic for about an hour on the line in response to the accident, but as of 10:30 a.m., only one train was operating with a 10-minute delay as a result of the accident, Reile said.

Update, 2 p.m.: The victim was a teenage boy, taken in critical condition to Oak Lawn's Christ Medical Center, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department told the Sun-Times. Other officials maintain he was taken to Stroger.
