A Bridgeport restaurant has voluntarily closed after an outbreak of E. coli impacted at least 25 Chicago residents, the Chicago Department of Public Health said in a statement.
Carbón Live Fire Mexican Grill (300 W. 26th St.) closed following a request by the health agency and are cooperating with the investigation, CDPH said. At least 5 individuals are known to have been hospitalized as part of the outbreak.
“This is a serious condition that is treatable,” said CDPH Commissioner Julie Morita, M.D. in a release. “Anyone who believes they may be symptomatic and ate at this restaurant should see their medical provider immediately. CDPH is taking every precaution as part of our robust response in order to limit the impact of this outbreak.”
The bacteria can be transmitted through consumption of contaminated foods including undercooked beef, unpasteurized juice, raw milk and uncleaned raw produce. The department has not yet determined which menu items are responsible and continues to investigate.
