If you woke up this morning to a ticket on your car, you're probably not alone.

Friday marks the end of the grace period for city sticker renewal, so that means if you're Chicago City Vehicle Sticker expired in June, you could get slapped with a $200 ticket. The city can issue an additional ticket for each day a motor vehicle goes without renewal.

There is something of a "grace period" in one respect: drivers have until July 30 to purchase a sticker without being subject to the $60 late-renewal fee. But that does not cover any potential tickets a driver might incur over the interim. The change was introduced in 2014 after the Chicago City Clerk Office announced a move to year-round sales of city stickers in efforts to alleviate long wait lines, but the new rule did not go into effect until today.

Drivers can renew stickers online at chicityclerk.com or visit the site for more information on eligible locations and hours. The City Clerk's office will be open Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to noon on to assist with demand.
