Photos: Purple Lightning Show Wakes Up Chicago

Chicago got an early wake-up call this morning when a lightning storm roiled the city. A few sleepless photographers captured the vivid show.

Here's a Vine that captures the "wicked" storm that woke everyone up:

Photographer Barry Butler captured some of the best early morning shots. Here's a huge bolt hitting the Sears Tower (or whatever you want to call it):

The Trump Tower got a big strike, too:

The bolts looked cartoonish and threatening against a purple sky:

This is what the action looked like from a Doppler radar: the storm lit up the Midwest from Iowa to Chicago.
