Andersonville's 1909 Trumbull School got the green light from the City Council zoning committee to move forward with its planned redevelopment in June, but its conversion into residential units and a performance venue still needs a landmark designation before construction can officially get underway.
Edgeville Buzz reports there is a bit of a delay in securing the required designation (a must in order to secure historic preservation tax credits) as the involved parties work out how the Timeline Theatre's plans to build a first-floor auditorium will jive with the building's historic guidelines.
Trumbull was designed by Dwight H. Perkins, the same Prairie School architect behind Lincoln Park Zoo's Lion House and Cafe Brauer, and Lane Tech High School in Roscoe Village. The former elementary school closed in 2013 and, after several redevelopment proposals, was sold to Svigos Asset Management in 2015. The $5.25 million price tag was reportedly the highest amount to be paid for any shuttered Chicago Public School.
