Update, July 20: The kitten died on Tuesday, shelter Felines & Canines said in a Facebook statement. "We wanted for him so badly to pull through... our hearts are broken," the statement reads.

-----

The badly burned kitten an Edgewater animal shelter has been treating with help from public donations since last Wednesday is "still alive and fighting, but in critical condition," according to a Sunday morning Facebook update from Felines & Canines shelter.

The kitten, who the shelter is now calling Sprout, has been transferred to a veterinary clinic with extensive burn experience. Vets will focus on neurological issues Sprout likely sustained from a stroke during his trauma, the post said, and stabilizing any internal damage before they move to healing his external injuries. A couple who has worked to help burned cats through their recovery in the past has also volunteered to assist Sprout when he is ready to leave the hospital.

Felines & Canines has been seeking emergency donations since Sprout came to the shelter last week after some garbage human set the poor little guy on fire. Donations can be made here.
